Crearing Miki-Town

Crearing Miki-Town

In October 1954, one town (Hirai Town) and four villages (Kamiyama Village, Tanaka Village, Hikami Village, Shimo-Takaoka Village) were merged to form Miki-Town. Later in September 1956, Ido Village was also incorporated. Inthe end, 6 towns and villages in the southern part Kita-gun merged into one town, creating Miki.

In November 1959, at the request of some residents a part of the former Ido Village became part of Nagao Town (Sanuki City) . And the current Miki-Town was born.

Origins of the town's name

In ZENSANSHI(A Sanuki History book, written by Nakayama Jozan) the author wrote:
"There was an old tall tree in Takagi, Ido. Since the height of this tree was about 100 m, the place was named Takagi (high tree). Similarly, there was an old holly tree in a place named Hiragi (flat tree). Finally there was a big Japanese pepper tree which obstructed the morning sun in the village of Asakura - the place was called Asakura-no-Sato (Village of Asakura). The name of Asakura Sansho (Asakura Japanese pepper tree) is taken from this. It is these three trees that were the origin of the name of Miki (three trees)."

When the new town was created, around 330 suggestions were received for the town's new name. Out of all of these, Miki-Town was selected. Miki county had long been a fondly regarded area and by perpetuating this name, we hope the land will remain as peaceful as it always has been, and prosper continue to.

The Symbol of Miki-Town
