Alien registration
When entering the country
Notification period
Within 90 days of arriving in Japan.
What to bring
- A passport or certificate of eligibility
- 2 passport-sized photographs (45Ð * 35Ð ) (not required for a person under 16)
Applicants
- If the applicant is 16 years of age or over, they must submit the application themselves. (Application by proxy is not allowed).
- If the applicant is under 16, relatives (such as parents) who live with the applicant should submit the application on behalf of the applicant.

When changing addresses while in Japan
Notification period
Within 14 days of the change
What to bring
- Alien Registration Certificate
Applicants
- If the applicant is 16 years of age or over, the application can be submitted by the applicant themselves or by their relatives (such as parents) who live with them.
- If the applicant is under 16, relatives (such as parents) who live with the applicant should submit the application on behalf of the applicant.
Place of Applicants:
If your new address is in Miki Town:

If your new address is outside of Miki Town:
The public office in your new municipality.

When registered details other than your address have changed:
1. In the case of any change of name, nationality, status of residence, authorized period of stay, occupation, or the name or location of place of employment:
Notification period
Within 14 days of the change.
What to bring
- Alien Registration Certificate
- Documentation supporting and proving the change(s).
- 2 passport-sized photographs (N.B: these are only required when a name or nationality is changed)
Applicants
- If the applicant is 16 years of age or over, they should submit the application themselves. (In some cases of changes cannot be made by relatives living with the applicant. Please refer to the note below.)
- If the applicant is under 16, relatives (such as the parents) who live with the applicant should submit the application on behalf of the applicant.

Note
Application by proxy cannot be accepted for:
- Name or nationality changes
- The authorized period of stay (less than 1 year) is prolonged to 1 year or more due to a change of status of residence and / or authorized period of stay
- The reverse side of the Alien Registration Certificate has no space left in which to note the necessary changes.
2. In the case of any changes to passport numbers, the date of passport issue, the address or residence in the home country, the name of the head of the household and the relationship with him or her

Notification can be made the next time you apply for any other changes regarding your Alien Registration.

When you have a baby
Notification period
Within 60 days of the birth.
What to bring
- A notification form (Syussei Todoke-sho) with a birth certificate signed by a doctor. This form will be available at the hospital where your baby was born.
- Passport (if available)
Applicants
Relatives (such as parents) who live with the applicant should submit the application on behalf of the applicant.

Certificate of Registered Matters for Alien Registration
What to bring

- Letter of proxy (in case of proxy only.)

Note
When a Certificate on Registered Matters of Alien Registration is required, the applicant or one of his or her relatives who lives with him or her should apply for it. Note that when proxy requests the certificate, written permission from the applicant will be required.
